JFR's Second Annual Scholarship Luncheon: On Wednesday, June 1st, the Jessie F. Richardson Foundation is holding its Second Annual Scholarship Luncheon. This program is to support service learning trips for students from Concordia University, Portland State University and Pacific University to work with the elders of Nicaragua. It is being held from 11:30am-1:30pm at the George R. White Library on the Concordia University Campus.

On their service learning trips, students hold health clinics, lead seminars and trainings on subjects ranging from physical therapy to dental hygiene to public health strategies, and complete construction projects at the Hogares de Ancianos, or elder homes, of Nicaragua.

Since JFR first began leading service learning trips in 2003, over 200 students have had life changing experiences working with the elders of Nicaragua. Please help them continuing doing so!

Individual tickets are available as well as the opportunity to make a donation. To make a donation, go to our donate now page, or send a check to:

Service Learning in Action: JFR Foundation Successfully Launches Inaugural ‘Voluntourism’ Trip to Nicaragua!

JFR partnered with Life by Design NW and Portland Community College (PCC) Community Education to offer a travel-service trip to Nicaragua in January 2011. This was the first time a trip was open to the public (students and nonstudents welcome). It was designed to be an incredible travel experience as well as a rewarding opportunity to ‘give back’ to those in need.
